I’m not the person who should be at the top of that ranking, considering who I’m sharing that first-place podium with and all the people who, throughout the years, have proven their value and skills. I’m so grateful to have a group of amazing people who celebrate each other’s successes and support one another when times get tougher. Thanks to Fabian and Pasqui for delegating at our venue, and to all the organizers and delegates whose hard work has made this competition a staple of the FMC scene. Looking back, FMC World 2024 was a major turning point in my FMC journey: my first 20-move single and the lead after the first attempt on the biggest stage. The problem was that I didn’t have the experience to maintain that level. I became obsessed with trying to beat the NR mean, and because of that I DNFed the last attempt. I’ve never really been able to prove myself as a reliable and consistent solver, since my performance is highly dependent on the outcome of the first attempt. Then came other big competitions and some good results: Europe FMC Friends Winter 2025, with the first 18 and a podium alongside the Polish gang, followed by the trip to Poland that finally gave me the long-awaited NR mean. After that came some good means, as the pressure was no longer there, but also some bad performances, plenty of mistakes, and still many things to improve in my solving, especially in the DR finish stage. Joining the Ticino gang was a last-minute decision. I couldn’t let the opportunity for three means slip away. And so the suicidal run began: waking up at 4:30 AM on Saturday to catch a train to Milan and then another one to Switzerland. The first two rounds didn’t go as planned, and my hopes were nowhere to be seen for the 2 AM–6 AM FMC World mean. But, as always, PRs come when easy scrambles appear. You just need to be lucky and prepared enough to make the most of what you find, especially when it comes to A2s and sprint scrambles. I was quite surprised by how many people found the second 19. After those two attempts, the hardest task remained: a mediocre scramble and the need for a “good enough” result. I’d already experienced that situation in Kraków a year earlier, and I knew I just had to pray to the FMC gods. This time, it worked out. Personally, I wouldn’t consider the somewhat findable 21 a miss, any day of the week. I still have a lot of work to do. A good mo3 is not what represents the true value of an FMCer; consistency, knowledge, and wisdom do. The idea of optimizing every solution and extracting the full potential from every scramble is what drives us forward, even if it means learning full sub-6 DR triggers :) I know what my weaknesses are, and I’m ready to work on them.

Very very happy with how this competition went. Starting at 3 am and ending at 7 am I abso-freaking-lutely didn't expect anything close to sub21, and would've been happy with a sub23, but the scrambles decided otherwise. Free 19 on a1 at 20 minutes, and then a free 19 on a2 at 15 minutes, which had me absolutely freaking out before a3. I was intending to write down a 24 or better as soon as possible, and then the 11th eo i check is a dr in 9, which turned out to be 2c5 and i was ready to jump into checking it anyway, but the eo variation gave a 4a3 in 9 with an immediate 4b2 2e reduction. The 4th htr i checked from that reduction gave a slice in 22 and that moment i knew i had a sub21, it was +1 sadly but still good enough for 20.33 at around 25 minutes of a3. I had an htr for 22 on the same dr but I believe I made myself think I was checking the other side of it while checking the same one once again when returning to it as my shortest htr. Sucks a bit of course to miss a 20.00 from htr, but that's 6 am FMC + nerves from crazy pace for you. I would gladly take the 4th place at FMC World with only 1 move missed on all scrambles any day, wherever that 1 move comes from Thanks to everyone who competed and especially to everyone who helped organise this, an amazing experience to compete against so many people.

two 19s on first two were crazy. i thought 20.33 PR mean would stand for a long time and wouldn't expect it be beated so soon until i found the second 19. then I was trying hard and dreaming to find a solution less than 22. anyway 20.00 satisfied myself!

A really silly comp with an emergency venue change after we showed up to a closed one on Sunday morning. Awful scrambles for both means and I could've gotten some decent results from them. In the end 23.00 mo6 by doing 28 and 22.00 mo(remaining)5 is still OK. Biggest mistakes is the finish on R2A1 and all of R1A2, but overall good solving I feel like.

21.33 in the morning - a move left on the table in each solution (varying levels of obviousness), but a good performance regardless. Happy with the mean even if it was "sub21 fail". Afternoon is a completely different story with an obvious DR opt missed, suboptimal slice and a miserable attempt to finish it all. Only good thing is that R2A3 would've been much more painful had i started with 20,22 rather than 22,23.

This comp feels very much like a repeat of the previous one in terms of my performance, with just a bit better scrambles. I again had 4 decent to good solves, and 2 disaster ones on the first attempts of both rounds. I missed 4 1 0 3 1 1 moves from what i consider reasonable on the sets, and 2 1(though just cause of time, 0 otherwise) 0 1 0 1(technically, from variation) from my drs, which is not bad on average but the outliers suck. Either way 22.00 mo6 is tied for my best 2round comp and I updated all my official big averages pbs so I'd say even without prs these comps were great for consistency practice for me. However I feel about individual solves I really enjoyed both FMC Ukraine-Poland comps, actually competing against people is so much more fun than against my nr. Congrats once again to Radek and Krzysztof for beating me twice. Dual rounds are also great fun, they make 1st round much more impactful which i really liked, though if this wasn't dual rounds I would've got 2nd and 1st insead of double 3rd😛

Tie PR easier than non-tie PR2. Before A3 started I felt like I had a small chance to actually beat Wen (not counting DNFs) for the first time since 2016 since I was just one move behind, but I pretty much knew it wasn't happening when I was struggling so hard on A3 to find anything remotely usable and ended with a 23.

A1 was quite disappointing, I was looking for 19 for most of the attempt having 20 at 30 mins on my paper. Sadly could nto find the 19 and the 18. As I was aiming for 20.67 or better, geting 19 would have gave me a good start. But turned out ok and I don't consider it as a WR fail given what I had else. A2 19 came out of nowhere, prevents me from facing the worst scramble of the 3 and allowed me to get a meringue during 30 minutes A3 20 at 30-35 minutes, I knew what this meant and completely crashed out, sadly no videos were taken of this and after A3. I tried extensions of DR and stuff just to make sure but 20 seems to be the best to get from this. Such a huge achievement, I felt like I deserved sub 21 but sub 20 is another world, would have been WR 2 months ago. Not sure I'll ever beat this, because sub 20 set is rare and my motivation will go down after Euros (it already did oops). Thanks all for the support <3

Sometimes you gotta waste the good set, to succeed on the terrible one. Happy with 21.33 in the afternoon mean, I don't think there was anything left to squeze out of that one. 22.1 official ao12 between the 4 rounds this weekend, even if it started poorly on Friday morning.

2 solves tied mallard, 1 solve tied mallard except for a 11+10 from 2c4 with variations, 1 solve would've been 1 move from mallard except for writing mistake, and 2 absolute disasters on the best scrambles. Overall i'm ok with my performance this competition, missing a free 19 on a1 sucks cause this could've easily led to a sub21 mean but i did have cold hands and had to poop for half of the attempt. Very happy to be 2nd in both rounds and 3rd overall, I love actually having people of similar or better level to compete against instead of just against nr. Congrats to Radek on a super cool 18 and a win with a 20.33 and to Krzystof for triple woaj in round 2.

R1 was bait-sprint A1, one-trick A2 and a tormentful-bait A3, while all I had on my mind was lunch. 20,19,22 human optimal doesn't tell the full story here. For R2 - calling PR2 a wasted set feels wrong, so maybe I won't, but it really feels like it. 20,19,19 maybe possible here, but 22,19,19 absolutely achievable and should've been easy. Overall there's still much to improve, but I'm happy to break a streak of poor solves and I look forward to the upcoming weeks with 6 more means to come.
