Since around 40 minutes I had this backup written down:
B2 D (D)
(L’ F L2 B F2 R2 U2 L) // 4a1 4e in 11
B2 D2 R2 F
(R2 B2 L2 U D’ R2 U D) // 23
I found the slice I used in final at around 45-48 minutes, but i at first wrote down one of the moves in post-htr twice accidentally, which lead to me miscounting it as a 23 to slice. I noticed this error at 57 minutes and started panically solving the slice, and if it wasn’t an immediate +1 with a simple shortening via slice theory I would’ve ended this attempt with a 23, because even with this i wrote down and checked my solution with 40 seconds left. Very stressful, but i’m very happy I clutched up here. The scramble was quite bad except for this one random niss eo in 3, and i was shocked when i saw 2c1e ar with 4 pairs, and dr in 7, but it is one of the most doomed drs i’ve ever seen. Turns out +15 was optimal from dr, and I wouldn’t consider any of mallard’s sub22s findable.

Not gonna lie, of all the solutions from this weekend I was expecting this one to be not optimal the least. I literally checked this htr, not sure how i missed the 2e2e insertion, maybe i just skimmed through it right after getting the 19 out of nowhere(I only found this dr at 40 minutes after having a couple of 2c3s in 10 and a backup 24 from one of them, didn’t expect a sub22 on this solve at all). This is definitely my closest miss of an 18 officially, even closer than the one at FMC Friends. This is also exactly the reason I didn’t want to check optimals before round 2, this solve is gonna haunt me for a while now. 18 is also optimal for the scramble here

I found this dr after almost giving up on nr chances, as it was 6th from last eo i had and all i had at that point was a 2c4 in 11, but this single eo saved me. The final solution also uses the first htr i checked, so i felt pretty comfortable after finding a slice in 22 at around 25-30 minutes. I had 2 other slices in 22 but all of them are +1 optimal. Dr optimal is 22 here but you have to either check htr in +9 or switch after 4 moves to 4a1, so nah. Missed a few 22s on the scramble, particularly this one from an rzp I had but didn’t find +6 to dr, but 22 looks to be the best you can get on the scramble:
(U B' L2 U' F) // eo-fb (5/5)
// rzp-lr-eofb (0/5)
(B2 L D2 R B2 D') // dr-lr-eofb (6/11)
(R' F2 R' B2 R B2 R') // htr-lr (7/18)
(F2 B2 D2 B2) // finish (4/22)
Don’t know if i would’ve checked 2c4 in 11 even if i found it but this is one of the first htrs to try here so i probably would’ve found this
